About The Kawara, Tenryu River

"Two boats are about to set sail from their shallow mooring on the river, their sails are filling with wind.  The foreground depicts a riverbed hosting many stones in a variety of shapes and colors."

Graphite signature by the artist confirms this impression as having been printed during Toshi Yoshida's lifetime.

When examined independent of framing, print is properly hinged with paper tape at top.

No value was associated with battered wood frame.

About Toshi Yoshida
(1911-1995, Japanese) His father, renowned painter and printmaker Hiroshi Yoshida, taught Toshi Yoshida the art of printmaking and painting at an early age. His mother and grandfather were artists as well.

At age nineteen, Toshi accompanied has father on a sketching trip to India and later to Southeast Asia. He had inherited not only his father's talent but also his passion for traveling. After the end of World War II, he traveled all over the world, including Antarctica. Throughout the United States and Europe, Toshi made sketches for new prints, exhibited his art and lectured about woodblock printmaking.

Following his father's death in 1950, Toshi began experimenting with abstract art, but within just a few years, returned to his realistic style of depicting landscapes and animals.
