About the Artist (1925-2019)  American   A prisoner of war at age 19 in Germany, Mellendorf earned his CPA and subsequently worked as an auditor for Peat Marwick Mitchell for ten years.  Mellendorf subsequently retired as Executive Vice President, President of the American Water System as well as its Chief Financial Officer.

He and his wife moved to Arizona in 2011.  At the age of 76, this corporate gentleman began oil painting.

Of note was Mellendorf's contribution to a publication State of the World 1986  A Worldwatch Institute Report on Progress Toward a Sustainable Society.  Mellendorf's noteworthy comment addressed "pricing water below its true cost is tantamount to . . . "  To read this rather astonishing assessment addressing ecological decline, water efficiency, rangeland management, oil dependence, electric power reformation, nuclear power plants, tobacco banishment, investment in children, reversing Africa's decline and redefining national security, it is available to read if you pair "Loren Mellendorf" and "State of the World 1986"  on Google
